Hi guys,
Recently been to Greenland and I had a blast out there.
For those keen on visiting places colder than the UK (why would you?!?!) this is a fantastic option for outdoors adventure.
Ask me anything if you got questions, happy to answer.

Kind regards,
Tiago

PS: Boss Dave, this video might be too 16:9 for your taste xD

Superb video, Tiago! Loving the dog sledding. How recently were you out there? Were you just mega lucky with the weather or did you get one clear day and film everything on that day? For somewhere so far up inside the Arctic Circle you seem to have hit the jackpot with clear sky and sunshine!

And 16:9 is just fine and dandy ;) As you've already seen, I coded the site to accept 4:3 and 16:9, 'cos I'm ded clevur. The reason I film in 4:3 is because it actually captures more footage as all 16:9 does is cut off the tops and bottoms of the footage, rather than actually widen it. But I admit, 16:9 looks much more dramatic, especially on landscape shots.

Out of interest, do you take any special measures with your camera when you're filming in freezing conditions? The biggest problem I'm aware of is the batteries dying 10x faster than usual.

And I like the ease of using and carrying my GoPro but I really do miss being able to zoom into things like I could when I used a Sony HandyCam. Do you use a couple of different cameras, depending on the shot you want, or do you just have the one? (and what is it?)

PS: There's a possibility I'll be going back to Iceland this summer, though it'll not be as cold and as barren as Greenland.

PPS: I like your final shot on the video. The Northern Lights are arguably one of the great wonders of the natural world with people travelling from all over the globe to see them and you just casually fade out on them right at the end, like they're no big deal ;)

Hey Dave,
I came back last week, been there 15 days...including the days I got stranded (2 days).
So, first thing you learn is that Greenland has more than 300 days of open sky per year! so i'd be very unlucky to get an overcast, which I actually did for 2 days or so as you can see on some shots.

When it comes to cameras and cold, it got down to -24 and still...I was more worried about my hands than camera as I never wore gloves to be able to operate the lenses hahah. Batteries do run out quickly so for that I got 2 Gopro batteries and 4 for my Sony A7. I am able to charge every night so I had quite a margin to play with in terms of battery.

I use sony A7 and the GoPro, if it was today...I'd get A7II or A7R, they are MUCH better for color grading.
I shoot:
Gopro 2k 50fps or 1080 120fps
Sony 1080p 50 fps

On both cameras I shoot raw with LOG, so, all desaturated and no sharpness or contrast in order to preserve as much info as possible.
So until I get back to london I can't really enjoy the shots with full colour.

Mate, Greenland and Iceland for me are just priceless...I wanna go back to Iceland again but for summer time too.

PS: the reason why the northern lights shot is short is cause...I didn't have more of it hahaha, it was VERY cold that night so I only have like 2 seconds worth of timelapse which I stretched to like 5s.
