I haven't done Crib Goch yet but I plan on it next year. I did Pyg a few months ago in rain with 70mph gusts - was great. And today I went Pyg and down Miners (boring, tedious coming down).

I'd imagine for Crib Goch you should check the weather isn't too windy and you're sure all parties are aware of what's to come.

In a couple of days I'll post a video of me running the Horseshoe which includes Crib Goch. You can use it to get a good idea of what to expect. Hint: don't walk hands-free along the very top of the ridge like I did.

Remember, I'm a trained professional. And by that I mean I'm not trained and I'm definitely not professional.

I was going to do it blindfolded anyway as i am a ninja, but yeah will be happy to watch you run it while I eat my pies, post the link when it's up 👍🏻

On my way down Pen y Fan today there was two blokes walking up carrying huge baguettes. Try taking a baguette up Crib Goch , you won't know if it's useless until you try
Dave
just watched the Video dave, If i get to the top in the time it too you to finish i will be happy :)

Haha. That reminds me, I need to add my Snowdon Horseshoe Speed Run video to this site!

I hope you get clear weather up there! Try your hardest not to run along the top without using your hands. I know it's tempting to do it that way but just fight the urge, okay? ;)

I assume you have Strava? As i have never done this path before can you confirm i have done the path correct, because it looks like there are 2 ways to go over Crib Goch, if you zoom in you will see on my route part of it splits, and goes back to the one path

Have i missed anything worth looking at on the route, is this the " correct " horse shoe"

please see my plan here

There's not really a strict path up Crib Goch's East side, from the Pyg Track to the beginning of the ridge. You just kind of go... up! If you generally keep to the right you'll miss some of the more scrambly parts. Did you see my recent video of me doing the Horseshoe? It has quite a lot of footage of me going up Crib Goch's east side so you can see what I mean when I say that there's a lot of picking your own route.

And yes, climbing the east side of Crib Goch to then cross its ridge is part of the Horseshoe :)
Dave
Cheers, yeah I watched it twice lol, you said on part if it that you take this part for the "real horse shoe" which was after Snowdon so wanted to check that too! I was just mapping it and noticed on Strava that it kind of splits crib goch in two, so was worried I mapped the wrong side 👍🏻

Yeah, the Horseshoe is basically Pen-y-Pass > Crib Goch > Garnedd Ugain > Snowdon > Lliwedd > Miner's Track > Pen-y-Pass (or the opposite way around). How you get from each peak to the next isn't too important. I was bouncing along ridges next to the Watkin Path because I like ridges but it's still the Horseshoe if you use the path. The same goes for Lliwedd.

I've never noticed that the Crib Goch path splits into two on a map. I guess that's because I've never used a map up there. The route is pretty obvious when you're on it. Just go up! :P
Dave
that's good enough for me then, the ridges look fun but will save that for a sunny day. As this is only our 2nd time up Snowdon better not push it. We do fancy a wild camp up there next year, that sunset you had in the snow looked very impressive, so might do that next year when there is still some snow about, unless i fall off crib goch on Friday ;)
