I have recently gotten interested in freight hopping and was wondering if anyone had tips they could give me. I am not planning on doing a long freight hopping trip so I don't know how much supplies I need. I was also wondering if anyone lives near Quincy Illinois that I could meet up with for my first train hop

Hi Steine,

The only tips I can really give are "Don't do it" and "Seriously, don't do it". Haha. As for finding someone to go with you, I think that'll be unlikely as anyone with experience isn't going to want to have a beginner tagging along as they'd just be a huuuge liability. There's absolutely nothing to gain from talking someone inexperienced on a freight trip, and everything to lose. Unless of course you're offering $10,000 cash up front, in which case I'm sure you'd find someone :P

Thanks for the advice ill probably just go with a friend on a short trip until I feel comfortable going on a longer trip

That's the way to do it (and the same applies to anything else in life). Start off small, get experience and build it up from there.

Just don't die (and if you do, let it be known that I suggested you don't do it :P )
