WHAT TO EXPECT
This course is aimed at people who are familiar with the basics of map reading and are comfortable with navigating on marked tracks but would now like to learn how to navigate more difficult routes, often un-pathed, and over tricky terrain!

I will teach you personal pacing, time estimations, strategies for navigating in poor visibility, micro navigation, dead reckoning, aiming off, attack points and triangulation.

We will spend nearly the whole day out on the mountain and by the end of the course you should have all the skills necessary to navigate to any point on the map!
FITNESS AND EXPERIENCE
A reasonable level of fitness is required as we will be walking on the mountain for most of the day and often off-path.

To benefit from this course you should already have a confident grasp of how to use a map and compass and how to navigate simple routes.
ESSENTIAL KIT
• Clothing and footwear suitable for walking in the mountains (full waterproofs and warm clothing are a must)
• A packed lunch and drinks
• The Ordnance Survey map OL17 Snowdonia in 1:25,000 scale
• A baseplate compass (Silva Type 4/54 is the industry standard)
