So yesterday night I decided I wanted to do something, so at 5 am this morning I set off for a four hour drive up to Mt Snowdon. Unfortunately I was unable to summit because of bad weather. But thank you Brave Dave for inspiring me to doing something more👍
Brave_Dave
Hi Spencer! Oh wow, you were inspired to climb Snowdon because of me? Haha, that's ace! It's a shame you couldn't summit it but good on you for trying! How bad was the weather up there? Was it just that you were unprepared for ice and snow or did the wind/rain/sleet come in as well?
Spencer_clarke
It was mainly that I was unprepared for the ice but it got worse when the fog set in.
Brave_Dave
Ah yes, fog can suck a fat one. I hate that stuff. There doesn't seem to be any point being on a mountain when there's fog. Oh man, ice and fog on Snowdon, yeah you did the right thing getting off of there. Well I hope your day wasn't wasted after all that driving! Did you drive down to Pete's Eats in Llanberis and get yourself a great big fry up? If not... well, you should have ;)

Jesus Spencer, that's mental! Well done on the impromptu adventure though, I hope you got what you wanted from it!

A few places to get mountain weather conditions in the future, save yourself the drive if you're not prepared :

Just a quick follow up, just stumbled on this recent video from Safe Snowdonia. Simple video about winter conditions, worth watching. Has some BEAUTIFUL, fully HD shots of the mountains in their winter coats.
Brave_Dave
Well that was a rather fantastic video! (By the way, I embedded it into your post for you). Every time I see things like that I'm reminded how much I'd like to buy a drone to shoot some amazing footage of Crib Goch (and elsewhere). I'm also really inexperienced with anything to do with ice hiking. I want crampons, an axe and some practice.

Thanks, just getting used to how we post fancy things :)

I'll save the winter walking for when the kids are a little older and it's easier to get away (little one is only just 3 months). Fair weather walking for now!
Brave_Dave
Haha yeah, leave the ice climbing until the youngest is at least 2. Any younger and that would just be plain irresponsible.

I'm not planning on bringing them - I just meant it's hard to just piss off for the weekend without getting a hard time from the missus!

I may take my 2 year old up Snowdon this year. She's already been up Pen-Y-Fan in the Brecons when she was 14 months!

I just made a little video of my trip if anyone's interested.

[Admin Edit: I've embedded Spencer's video into his first post at the top of this thread]
Brave_Dave
Spencer, how old are you? At first I was like "There's no way he's old enough to be driving, surely!" Then I saw you were with your dad :P

Good work! And I really like how people are posting their videos on here. I'm going to add something which lets people link to their YouTube channels and websites from their profiles.

Nice video Spencer, looks like some good quality time with old man :)
