I have not yet gone Freight hopping

looking at all the vids i assume it would be very comfy if you would bring a towel which you could put on wet grounds of the train so that you can sleep. And should you bring a pillow, of course i would attach it to my bag so that it doesnt get lost off of a train!

Haha. There's something about this post which just seems so... innocent. Putting a towel down on wet ground to sleep. Awww :P

No, a towel will not protect you from the wet ground. It will just soak up the wetness and then become wet. Also pillows are very bulky. Just fold up your jacket or some other clothing and rest your head on that.

Elliot, how old are you? I advise that you don't go freight hopping. Get into wild camping instead! It'll give you loads of experience with how to sleep outdoors and is loads of fun.

Yeah, a towel is kind of pointless as Dave mentioned you want to pack as light as possible especially for longer trips. Make sure to pack as light as possible without giving up essentials. A towel will just be extra weight especially when it inevitably gets wet.

Well.. You know what Douglass Adams said in the Hitch Hikers Guide "trillogy": "a towel is the most usefull tool a hitch hiker can cary." But in all seriousness, he was a comedian and an author, not an actual hitch hiker/train hopper or generally a traveller.

You're a towel!

I think I would be more concerned about things like warm clothing and water carriage in case you're on the train for a long time and can't get off. A cheap foam mat would be better as insulation from the surface. Something you can ditch if it gets in the way.
